Botox Alternative Xeomin Now Available in U.S.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic has been the most popular choice for people who want to get rid of wrinkles for several years. It is safe, affordable, and effective. However, a new BOTOX® Cosmetic alternative called Xeomin has become available in the U.S. It was approved by the FDA in August 2010 to treat blepharospasm, or involuntary blinking or spasms of the eyes.
Both BOTOX ® Cosmetic and Xeomin are by-products of the bacterium Colstridium botulinum, called Botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin type A temporarily paralyzes facial muscles by preventing the exchange of nerve signals between the brain and muscles. The resulting restricted facial movement prevents wrinkles above the area of paralysis.
What sets Xeomin apart from injectables like BOTOX ® Cosmetic and Dysport is that it does not have to be refrigerated before use, and it does not contain additives. Because it only contains Botulinum toxin type A, there is a smaller risk of people developing antibodies against Xeomin. Effects of Xeomin will show within one week and the results last from three to six months.
There is minimal recovery time associated with injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Xeomin. These facial rejuvenation procedures can be done in a 30 minute office session so that you can get back to your busy schedule.
If you have considered BOTOX ® Cosmetic and are interested to learn more about the new alternative, Xeomin, please contact Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Bottger. He proudly serves Philadelphia, West Chester, and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
